About Providence

Our mission at Providence Community Church is to proclaim Christ as a caring community of God-exalting disciple makers. This is the purpose and passion that binds us together in the midst of our diversity and differences.

We believe that this mission can be faithfully carried out by giving ourselves, corporately and individually, to these four practices in our lives:

Delight

“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”  (Psalm 34:1-3)

Worship is the response of our hearts to the grace, mercy, love, and faithfulness of our God displayed to us in the good news of Jesus Christ. Delight in God is what fuels the people of God to desire to know, obey, and serve Him. We believe that as our hearts are captured by affections for God, our actions will follow in faithful service to Him. Thus, we proclaim Christ and exalt in the name of our Lord together for our joy and for His glory!

Our Mission

Declare

“Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.”  (Psalm 96:2-3)

God has graciously redeemed His people through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son so that we might now live to the praise of His glorious grace.  Our desire is to be a church that faithfully proclaims Christ for the good of His people, for the growth of His kingdom, and for the glory of His name. We strive to declare His glory and grace in our preaching, teaching, and personal interactions when we gather, and to our neighbors and the nations when we go out.

Disciple

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:18-20)

These words of Jesus to His disciples help to inform us of why He has redeemed us and set us apart to Himself. He has a purpose for His people, and it is that we might be His ambassadors who go forth to make disciples for the sake of His name. We believe that this is accomplished as we grow in our faith and in the knowledge of His Word, and then teach others His truth so that they too might live in glad obedience to Him. This growth in grace is a process that is only accomplished in the power of the Spirit and under the authority of God’s Word.

Depend

“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”  (Hebrews 4:14-16)

We are an imperfect, needy people who still battle the flesh and who often find ourselves lacking wisdom and feeling weary. But, thanks be to God that we are not left on our own to fulfill His call and figure out how to please Him. Rather, in Christ, He has given us all that we need to do what He has called us to do. We are able to enter into His presence at any time and receive His power and His grace to help us in our weakness, and His wisdom and truth to help us when we don’t know how to move forward. Our desire is that we do everything that God has called us to do in faithful and confident dependence on Him for all we need.
